Furnace Repair in Metro Atlanta, Georgia

When your furnace stops working in the middle of a Georgia winter, All Purpose Heating & Air Conditioning is ready to help.

Furnace Repair for Metro Atlanta Homeowners

Furnace repair is the process of diagnosing and fixing a heating system that has stopped working correctly, whether that means no heat at all, unsafe combustion, or a unit that keeps shutting itself off. For homeowners across Metro Atlanta, a furnace problem in January or February is not a minor inconvenience. It is a situation that needs a real answer, fast.

All Purpose Heating & Air Conditioning has been locally owned and operating in the Atlanta area for more than 35 years. We are licensed and insured, and we work on both residential and commercial properties. When a furnace call comes in, we send a technician who has seen the problem before and knows how to trace it to the source.

Georgia winters are mild by northern standards, but they are not gentle. A stretch of nights in the low twenties or thirties will push an aging furnace past whatever it has been hiding all fall. That is usually when homeowners discover a cracked heat exchanger, a failing gas valve, or an ignitor that has finally given out. The symptoms were there. The cold just made them impossible to ignore.

If your furnace is not doing its job, the right move is a proper diagnosis before anything else. We will tell you exactly what we find and give you a clear estimate before any repair work begins.

I had an emergency electrical outage problem in the kitchen/dining room area. The power outage affected the lights and several appliances. Ronnie performed a few troubleshooting tests of the breaker unit and outlets. He was ultimately able to pinpoint the source of the problem and discovered that the kitchen lamp fixture had a loose fluorescent bulb. After Ronnie tightened it, everything began to operate normally again. He was very thorough, professional, fair and courteous. I will contract his services for all my electrical needs in the future.

I received services twice this year from All Purpose; for the replacement of my AC unit and the replacement of my furnace and each time I received superb services. Mr. Rudy and Deron were in sync working together and making sure my home was cooling and heating accordingly. They also helped me set up my smart Thermostat and taught me how to use it, answering all my questions and concerns. Very reasonable priced and provide visual details of what's going on. I definitely highly recommend All Purpose Heating & Air Condition!

Signs Your Furnace Needs Repair Right Now

Some furnace problems announce themselves loudly. Others creep up slowly until one cold morning the house just never gets warm. Here are the specific signs that tell you it is time to call a technician.

  • No heat at all. The thermostat is set, the system kicks on, but the air coming from the vents is room temperature or colder. This points to a failed ignitor, a tripped limit switch, or a gas supply issue. Left alone, it does not fix itself.
  • The blower runs but the air stays cold. You can hear the fan, but there is no warmth behind it. This usually means the burners are not lighting or the flame sensor is too dirty to confirm ignition. The system shuts the gas off as a safety measure, and the blower keeps running on its own.
  • Short cycling. The furnace fires up, runs for a minute or two, then shuts off before the house reaches temperature. It repeats this over and over. Common causes include an overheating heat exchanger, a clogged filter, or a failing limit switch. Short cycling puts extra wear on every component.
  • A burning smell when the heat runs. A faint dusty smell at the start of the season is normal. A persistent burning odor, especially one that smells like melting plastic or hot metal, is not. That needs attention before the next cycle.
  • A yellow or orange pilot flame. A healthy burner flame is blue. A yellow or orange flame indicates incomplete combustion, which can mean carbon monoxide is not being fully vented. This is a safety issue, not a performance issue.
  • The furnace will not stay lit. It lights, runs briefly, then goes out. A dirty or failing flame sensor is the most common cause. The sensor cannot verify the burner is on, so the gas valve closes. It will keep doing this until the sensor is cleaned or replaced.

None of these symptoms get better on their own. The longer a furnace runs in a compromised state, the more likely a minor repair becomes a major one.

How We Diagnose and Fix Your Furnace

When an All Purpose technician arrives at your home, the job follows a specific sequence. We do not guess and we do not replace parts hoping for the best. Every step has a purpose.

Diagnosis first. We start at the thermostat and work through the system. We check for error codes, inspect the filter and airflow, and confirm the electrical supply to the unit. This tells us where to look before we open anything up.

Ignition system and flame sensor. The ignitor and flame sensor are two of the most common failure points on a gas furnace. We test the ignitor for proper resistance and inspect the flame sensor for carbon buildup. A sensor that cannot read the flame correctly will shut the gas valve every time, even if the burner lights perfectly. We clean or replace as needed.

Gas valve and safety controls. We test the gas valve for correct operation and check the pressure switches and limit switches that protect the system from overheating or unsafe conditions. A limit switch that trips repeatedly is telling you something else is wrong, and we find out what.

Repair or part replacement. Once we know what has failed, we explain it to you plainly and give you an estimate. If you approve the work, we complete the repair with the correct part for your unit. We do not install generic substitutes on components where the spec matters.

Combustion and carbon monoxide safety check. Before we leave, we verify the heat exchanger is intact, confirm the flue is venting properly, and check for carbon monoxide at the unit. A furnace that runs but vents poorly is more dangerous than one that does not run at all. We do not skip this step.

Furnace Repair Across Our Metro Atlanta Service Area

All Purpose Heating & Air Conditioning serves homeowners throughout the Metro Atlanta region, including communities like Alpharetta, Conyers, Peachtree City, Newnan, and McDonough. If you are within our service area, we can get a technician to your home.

What a furnace repair costs and how long it takes depends on a few real factors. The failed component matters most. Cleaning a flame sensor is a straightforward job. Replacing a gas valve or a heat exchanger is a more involved one. Furnace type and age also play a role. An older atmospheric furnace and a newer two-stage variable-speed unit do not share the same parts or the same labor process. Accessibility is a factor too. A furnace in a finished basement with clear access is a different job than one tucked into a tight crawlspace or attic.

The only honest way to get a real number is to have a technician look at the system. We provide an estimate before any repair work begins, so you know what you are agreeing to.

If the diagnosis points to a cooling problem rather than a heating one, our team handles that too. You can read about our air conditioning repair services or, if the system is at the end of its useful life, learn more about AC installation and system replacement as an option.

Whatever the system needs, the next step is the same. Request your estimate and we will get a technician scheduled for your home.

FAQ

Common Questions Process

The cost depends on which component has failed, the age and type of your furnace, and how accessible the unit is. A simple flame sensor cleaning is a different job than replacing a gas valve or a heat exchanger. The only reliable way to get an accurate number for your specific situation is to have a technician diagnose the system. All Purpose Heating & Air Conditioning provides an estimate before any repair work begins.

Many common repairs, such as replacing an ignitor, cleaning or swapping a flame sensor, or replacing a pressure switch, can be completed in a single visit. More involved repairs, like a gas valve replacement or a heat exchanger inspection, take longer and may require a part to be sourced if it is not on the truck. Your technician will give you a realistic timeline once the diagnosis is complete.

Age and the nature of the failure are the two main factors. A furnace that is relatively young with a straightforward component failure is usually a good candidate for repair. An older unit facing a major failure, such as a cracked heat exchanger, may cost more to fix than it is worth given its remaining useful life. Your technician will walk you through what was found and what your realistic options are so you can make an informed decision.

Short cycling puts mechanical stress on the system but is not immediately dangerous in most cases. A yellow or orange flame is a different matter. It can indicate incomplete combustion and the potential for carbon monoxide to enter your living space. If you notice a yellow flame or any smell of combustion gases in the house, turn the furnace off and give us a call before running it again.

Yes. All Purpose Heating & Air Conditioning is licensed and insured to work on both gas and electric heating systems for residential and commercial properties throughout the Metro Atlanta service area. If you are not sure what type of furnace you have, the technician can identify it on arrival.
